ALCÚDIA
.
Flying area from Alcúdia and the Bay from PollençaThe “Puig de Sant Martí” is a mountain of 235m. with the take-off area practically on the top of the mountain at 230 m. The drop is 225 m. The main take-off area is directed towards the East so that it is also possible to take off with Northeasterl to Southeasterly winds. The secondary take-off area is on the north face of the mountain where you can take-off with Northerly to Northeasterly winds. The nearest settlements are Alcúdia an the Puerto de Alcúdia.

Julián flying over the Alcúdia beachAccess: The entrance to the “Puig de Sant Martí” is situated on the main Inca-Alcúdia road at km. 50,2 the track is not tarmacced and it passes through a pine wood gently rising until the track branches left and continues to the “Puig” (if you branch right you can begin a descent to the Albufera marshland). The track gets steeper and reaches an open area where we set up the hang-gliders and here is the main take-off area.
It is best not to park in this open are so as not to take up spare for rigging the hang-gliders.
.
East take-off area from Alcúdia. Bay from Alcúdia and La Atalaya.Take-off: The main take-off area is a launch pad made of stones and earth (6 m. long and 2 to 3 m. wide). There are no problems and you can even take-off with very little wind. This pad is the one normally used for pilots making their first solo flights. The pad on the north face is past the aerials, after a 30 m. walk over rocks. It is of stone and 6 m. long and 2 m. wide. Again there are no problems.
.
Flying: This are offers the most possibilities because of the variety of flights possible, ideal for beginners (except in mid-summer, when it is usually difficult because of thermal gusts of more than 40 km/h).
Jimmy on the Beach, in the rear the Puig de Sant MartíIn summer it is possible to fly virtually every day thanks to the “embat” (thermal sea breeze). Frequently the breezes from the Bay of Pollença and the Bay of Alcúdia come together and then it is possible to fly over Alcúdia, the Port of Alcúdia and even to reach the island of Aucanada and the hill known as Atalaya de Alcúdia. On some occasions it possible to exceed 1.000 m. in altitude. In winter, when the Easterly Levante winds blow, we take advantage of landing on the beach., situated only 2 km. away. (in summer because of the crowds it is not possible to land there).
From this area the Balearic record of  71,8 km. was established, currently in possession of Rafel Borràs.
.
Landing field and the Puig de Sant MartíLanding: It is arrived at from the Palma-Alcúdia road at km. 52, from the lane that goes to the “Garden Lago Hotel”, and sewage treatment plant. It is a large field (in relation to the average size on the island) situated 850 m. from take-off in the direction of Alcúdia. Even if has been recently sown there is always a small triangle available more than sufficient for any type of hang-glider. There are also alternative fields nearby.
