 Located
near by the "Ermita de Betlem", 6.2 miles (10 Km.) away from the village
of ARTÀ, the launching area offers a natural pad on a little mountain
called "El Mirador". It has an elevation of 984 feet (300 m.) and a height
of 968 feet (295 m.). The take off is directed towards the North and the
Northwest. The panoramic view is really nice, facing the sea and you can
see the whole Bay of ALCÚDIA. |
| Access: From ARTÀ drive 6.2 miles (10 Km.) towards the "Ermita de Betlem" up to a narrow and windig road. Parking is available outside the "Ermita" in a designated area. You may then proceed around the left side of the "Ermita" building trough a fenced enclosure. Continue on the path exiting through a gate, which takes you after 650 feet (200 m.) to the top of the hill. |
 Take
off: There is a natural launching pad surrounded by brush. If the wind
blows from the North the take off is really easy. With Northwest wind a
rocky peak on the left side generates some turbulence. If that is the case
execute a decisive run and expect some shaking for 2 or 3 seconds. After
that the flight is ideal, so this wind direction creates the best soaring. |
 Flying:
The highest peak of the 6.8-mile-long mountain range (11 Km.) is "La Atalaia
de'n Morey" at 1,844 feet (562 m.). It is facing towards the sea and you
can easily get up to 3,300 feet (1.000 m.). It is easy to fly over the
whole ridge and with the help of various mountains like "Paré" and
"Calicant" it is even possible to reach the city of MANACOR. |
 Landing:
The landing area is located ahead of the launching pad. The field is big
enough to have a smooth landing. Watch out for telephone lines surrounding
the area. There are some alternate fields in the vicinity. Do not just
go there for a simple gliding flight, because the problem is the 15-mile-drive
(24 Km.) to get back to the launching area. Just in case you go, there
is a little path that goes up to the top. To get the landing field take
the C-712 road from ARTÀ to PORT d'ALCÚDIA, and get off on
the "Colonia de SANT PERE" intersection. Once there follow the road which
takes you to "S'Aigo Dolca". After 1.2 miles (2 Km.), you will see the
field wich is located on the right next to a restaurant. |
