Flying Area "EL VILÀ"
.
El Vilà is a mountain of 309m. The take-off is at an altitude of 150 m. and it is directed towards the SE. The nearest village is Port de Pollença.
.
Access: From the Port de Pollença-Pollença road 2,5 km. from Port de Pollença and on the right. There is a track that crosses an urbanization. The track is asphalted, except the last 500 m. wich is in very bad condition. (a 4 wheel drive is essential).
.
Pollença-El Vilà. Jimmy on the launch slope.Take-Off: The take-off is a launch pad made of wood 4,5 m. longe and 2 m. wide. There are no problems with a little wind.
.
Flying: It is not difficult to fly alongside the mountain with a wind of 20 km/h or more. As the mountain is 309 m., it is easy to reach 450-500 m. In this case it becomes a very nice flight, because it is easy to go towards the NE, and to arrive at the “Cavall Bernat”, hillside in NE-SW direction, where you can arrive at 600 m., with the possibility of going towards the E and reaching other mountains.
Towards the SE of the side of the mountain and then with a tail wind, towards the NW, you arrive at the “Serra de Cornavaques”.
Sometimes it is possible to find good thermals and if there is not a strong wind, occasionally you can join up with the “Penya Mascorda”, which is followed by other mountains the allows you to cross the “Serra de Tramuntana”.
.
Pollença-El Vilà. Landing field.Landing: It is easy. A big field close the take-off towards Port dePollença. If this field is sown, there are other fields further on. It is important to go out of the gate, and never to jumpe the fence. These fields are beside the road.
